Mohawk Area Elementary School - Bessemer PA

Text Coming Soon!

In the late 1970’s the officials of the Mohawk Area School District began serious discussions on remodeling or replacing the three aging elementary schools then located at Bessemer, Hillsville, and Mount Jackson. By the fall of 1981 it was decided to consolidate and build a new elementary school next to the Mohawk Junior-Senior High School just east of Bessemer. Construction of the new school, designed by architect R. Kay Thompson of the W.G. Eckles Co., began in September 1982. In November 1983 the students of the Hillsville school were the first to occupy the new building, with the others coming in early January 1984. The Mohawk Area Elementary School, with 1,200 students led by veteran principal James J. Verlotte, was officially dedicated in April 1984. (c2010) Full Size
