 In late 1932 the Cline Construction Company of Butler commenced work on replacing two bridges in Wurtemburg, including the Portersville Road Bridge (shown above) across the Slippery Rock Creek. This bridge was to replace an older bridge at the same location, which was dangerous due to its small size and curved approaches. It was known informally as the “middle” or “second bridge” due to it being the second of the three bridges in the Wurtemburg area. The new 310-foot-long skewed truss bridge, supported by a single concrete pier, was opened for traffic on Thursday, June 15, 1933.
