First United/Calvin Presbyterian Church - Ellwood City PA

Text Coming Soon!

The congregation of the First United Presbyterian Church was founded in the new settlement of Ellwood City in 1891. A wooden frame church (pictured above) was soon opened on Crescent Avenue in April 1892 on land donated by the Pittsburg Company. The building cost $3,200. The congregation steadily grew and by 1910 it was obvious a larger church was needed. (c1900)

A new church edifice was soon authorized and the old building was razed by early 1914. An impressive-looking stone and brick church (shown above) was built at the same location. The church was dedicated during a ceremony on Sunday, June 20, 1915. (c1924) Full Size

In July 1960 the charter was officially amended to change the church’s name to Calvin Presbyterian Church. (c1935)
