River Road Railroad Bridge/Tunnel (B&O) - Taylor Twnp PA

This intricate stone and brick tunnel/railroad bridge – officially known as B&O Bridge 365 – sits hidden near the Beaver River as you travel on River Road between Chewton and West Pittsburg in Taylor Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. It was constructed in 1899 as part of the “Chewton Cut-Off” of the Pittsburgh & Western Railroad (P&W), which became a part of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O). It is on the east side of the road just north of Tony Dytko Road. The narrow tunnel allows a small stream (Ritchie Run) to run from the hills above, underneath the railroad tracks, and on towards the Beaver River. The lone railroad track (once a double track at one time) carried the trains of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O) on their way to and from distant Chicago but now carry a once or twice daily run of the regional Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad (BPRR) – passing between Butler and New Castle.
