Ellport Tigers - Ellport PA

Text Coming Soon!

The Ellport Tigers, pictured here in 1940, were one of the area’s best softball teams of the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. Among the star players was pitcher Francis ‘Fran’ Liposky, standing on top right of photo. This team won Ellwood City’s Unemployment Softball League title in 1938 and along with the local Sons of Italy team joined the New Castle loop in 1941, which was renamed as the Lawrence County Softball League. They competed against teams such as Johnson Bronze, National Radiator, The Fannins, Seventh Ward Progressives, Sunny Boys, Valentinos, Columbus A.C. at Ewing Park, Gaston Park, Dean Park, Liberty Street Field, and Hickory Heights Field among other locations. My uncle George Migut, a longtime employee of the Tube Mill, is pictured standing second from left end of second row. Full Size
